 HOME UPDATE: Window Valances

We moved into our home over 9 years ago and the previous owners left behind their window treatments. Initially I was happy to have them and liked them enough. These valances in the formal living room were a nice neutral color, however, as my taste evolved over the years, I realized they just weren't really my style. My sister-in-law described them best - they were very "heavy."

I was at a friend's house and admired her window treatments and she told me they were from Smith & Noble. So I went to the Smith & Noble website and started looking at options, and ordered a bunch of fabric samples (they're all free). My husband and I narrowed it down to 3-4 options and then I connected with one of their designers for a free consultation. She was able to create mock ups for me so we could see what each pattern would look like in our current space. We were torn between two options, a watercolor leafy pattern and colorful dots (see below). We really wanted to go with the dot pattern, but ultimately decided it was too modern for our traditional house. I am so glad we went with the watercolor leaves because I absolutely love it! It is so much lighter and brighter and changed the whole room.

We decided in November to change the valances. I didn't select a fabric until a few days before Christmas and they were installed on January 27th. The whole process was about 3 months. I'm glad we took our time and selected something we love, especially since we won't be changing it again for a very long time! I wish we had done it sooner! Smith & Noble had great customer service and were very easy to work with. I highly recommend!

I have lots of favorites to share this Friday start with... 1. ENGLISH FACTORY DRESSES: My friend has this dress and it's adorable on her. August 22, 2025 1. GIRL TIME: I spent a few days in the Hamptons with my mom this week. Brian and the kids stayed home since sports have already kicked off. Even though Mom lives with us now, we haven’t had much one-on-one time, so it was really nice to catch up. My friend Carrie was also out there solo, so we squeezed in lots of shopping! Such a nice little break before the craziness starts next week. 2. OOFOS flip flops: One of my neighbors has these and swears by them. I bought them in black and have to admit, they are VERY comfortable. I expect to be wearing these to lost of games in the fall.  Oofos Original Sandal 3. NEW RUGS: Carrie and I were both on the hunt for rugs and I ended up finding this beautiful blue one at HomeSense. The navy, red, and white rug is from Pottery Barn, and I scored it for an amazing deal on Facebook Marketplace! 3. TUCKERNUCK SAMPLE SALE: The semi-annual Tuckernuck sample sale is live and it's sooooo good. There were so many pieces I loved but I...
LOW LEVEL GOALS FOR 2025 Today I'm linking up with Erika to share our goals for 2024. I like that they are calling these "low level" goals because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I've made the mistake in previous years of setting lofty goals that weren't attainable. So here we go.... Read 25 Books in 2025: Last year I wanted to read 24 books in 2024 and I fell a little short. I think I read about 20. But this year I'm committed. I really enjoy reading so it shouldn't be too hard. The issue is finding the time. We have a vacation planned in April and I love to read on vacation. I also love hunkering down under a blanket with a good book during the colder months.  Take Online Classes: I'm a teacher and our district offers pay increases every time you earn an additional 30 credits up to 120 credits. This year my goal is to earn 30 credits (10 classes) before September 1st. A couple of years ago I earned my first 30 and I've slacking...
