 KITCHEN UPDATE

When we moved into our house about 9 years ago the kitchen was one of the selling points. It was a Tuscan style kitchen that was probably put in sometime in the early 2000s. The kitchen has high end appliances like a sub zero fridge, double oven, and a Wolf stove. While still functional, now it is outdated. I dreamed of a white kitchen with subway tile and white and gray quartz countertops. As my mom would say, I have champagne taste and a beer budget.

My friend Deirdre had her kitchen cabinets painted and I thought that could be a solution. I used the same company she did, NYC Fine Finishes.  It didn't hurt that the owners are from Ireland so that made me automatically like them. I explored the idea of painting the cabinets and changing the granite for quartz, but I was warned that removing the granite could possibly damage the cabinets. I had gotten a quote for the cabinet painting from another reputable company a few years earlier so I was prepared for the cost. Otherwise I would have had sticker shock. Painting the cabinets, at least with the attention to detail that we wanted, is not cheap. But I think it was worth it! It totally transformed the kitchen and made it lighter and brighter.  I also got a new light fixture, window seat cushion, and table. Here are some before and after photos.

It was really a nuisance for almost two weeks. At one point we had to out the front door and through the garage to get to the family room.

I had 4 colors samples and narrowed it down to two....White Dove and Swiss Coffee, both by Benjamin Moore. I loved both but choose Swiss Coffee because it looked a little creamier.

New table and chandelier:

It's amazing what a little paint and some new fixtures can do!

It has been a BUSY but fun couple of weeks around here. Today is my last day of work for awhile and I'm hoping to enjoy some down time as we head into August. I have lots of favorites to share this Friday start with... 1. ENGLISH FACTORY DRESSES: My friend has this dress and it's adorable on her. BASEBALL LIFESTYLE : My son Jack is very into this Baseball Lifestyle 101 brand. It's all the rage with the baseball players. He typically wears hand me downs so I treated him to these shorts in blue and pink and the short sleeve hoodie. Baseball Shorts 3. CHERRIES: My obsession with cherries continues. I picked up this straw bag at a local boutique, a cute tank at Old Navy, and some fun items at Five Below.  Old Navy Cherry Tank ...
August 22, 2025 1. GIRL TIME: I spent a few days in the Hamptons with my mom this week. Brian and the kids stayed home since sports have already kicked off. Even though Mom lives with us now, we haven’t had much one-on-one time, so it was really nice to catch up. My friend Carrie was also out there solo, so we squeezed in lots of shopping! Such a nice little break before the craziness starts next week. 2. OOFOS flip flops: One of my neighbors has these and swears by them. I bought them in black and have to admit, they are VERY comfortable. I expect to be wearing these to lost of games in the fall.  Oofos Original Sandal 3. NEW RUGS: Carrie and I were both on the hunt for rugs and I ended up finding this beautiful blue one at HomeSense. The navy, red, and white rug is from Pottery Barn, and I scored it for an amazing deal on Facebook Marketplace! 3. TUCKERNUCK SAMPLE SALE: The semi-annual Tuckernuck sample sale is live and it's sooooo good. There were so many pieces I loved but I...
LOW LEVEL GOALS FOR 2025 Today I'm linking up with Erika to share our goals for 2024. I like that they are calling these "low level" goals because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I've made the mistake in previous years of setting lofty goals that weren't attainable. So here we go.... Read 25 Books in 2025: Last year I wanted to read 24 books in 2024 and I fell a little short. I think I read about 20. But this year I'm committed. I really enjoy reading so it shouldn't be too hard. The issue is finding the time. We have a vacation planned in April and I love to read on vacation. I also love hunkering down under a blanket with a good book during the colder months.  Take Online Classes: I'm a teacher and our district offers pay increases every time you earn an additional 30 credits up to 120 credits. This year my goal is to earn 30 credits (10 classes) before September 1st. A couple of years ago I earned my first 30 and I've slacking...
