MONT TREMBLANT
When we first decided we wanted to go away the week between Christmas and New Year's, I was imagining somewhere warm by the beach. As my mom would say, I have champagne taste and a beer budget. After doing lots of research and realizing it wasn't in the cards this year, I shifted to planning a ski trip. I thought of Mt. Tremblant because although it is in driving distance from where we live in NY, it has a European vibe. Before this trip, I was only there once, about 20 years ago (crazy to think it's been that long!). I knew the quaint village would have a lot to offer my non-skiing husband. Then I reached out to another family we love and asked them if they wanted to join...they said yes and a plan came to fruition!
WHERE WE STAYED
There are several hotels and condos at the base of the mountain that are ski-in and ski-out. By the time I was planning this strip (around October) they were already booked. The first time I went to Tremblant I stayed at the Westin. I remember they had this amazing huge outdoor hot tub/pool. The Fairmont is another super nice property there. We ended up staying at an AirBnb, which was perfect for our two families. It had plenty of room, a cozy fireplace, a game room for the kids, and a hot tub which we all enjoyed.
WHERE WE ATE
On our way there, we met our friends about an hour outside Tremblant at Sucrerie de la Montagne, an authentic "sugar shack" where they make their own maple syrup. It was like stepping back in time as we toured the grounds and enjoyed a traditional meal. This was a special experience. I'm not sure the kids appreciated it, but the adults sure did. This was something Brian really wanted to do; kudos to him for setting it up.
There are so many great restaurants in Mt. Tremblant to choose from. Our cousin's friend has a family home there so she sent us some recommendations in advance of our trip. At the base of the mountain we enjoyed meals at Lucille's, La Diable, and Le Shack. The adults enjoyed apres ski at Le Shack and Caribou. Caribou was a scene! We went there while the kids were in laser tag. It reminded me of when I was in my 20s and did more apres skiing than actual skiing. It's really nice that the kids are older now and we're able to leave them alone for a bit. We enjoyed an adults only dinner at Le Petite Cachee in Old Quebec Village. The service, food, and ambiance was outstanding. On our last day, Laura and her friend didn't feel like skiing so they had lunch with Brian at this Ramen restaurant. I don't remember the name of it, but it was "the BEST meal ever."
And of course, poutine...which reminded me of late nights at the diner eating cheese fries and gravy.
SKIING
The conditions weren't ideal, but we made the best of it and had some great runs. I'm always nervous on our first ski day of the season, but we all did great (myself included if I do say so!).
Love my Apres Ski sweater from LOFT....today it's only $18!
